Artificial grass
We also offer a range of Artificial Turfgrass products for those who want ‘green carpet’ in their outdoor space without the workload. Recently, this market has ballooned somewhat in popularity and is indeed a much better alternative to membrane and gravel gardens. Much improvements have been made to Artificial Turfgrass over the years, and today we find a range of products, more convincing to the eye and yet more suitable to its designed application, from a decorative lawn with fine grasses to a tougher lawn for sporty children or family dog etc.
Modern artificial lawns offer excellent memory properties, that is a swards (grass leaf) ability to return to its initial position after impact, from say a foot ot hand. The look of the finished grass is designed to imitate real grasses found in lawned areas such as Rye and Fescues.
Artificial Turfgrass Visual Designs
Some green Artificial lawn installations can be inlaid with coloured artificial Turfgrass, perhaps to reveal a logo or picture within garden. Once installed, minimal work is needed to maintain the new lawn. It stays green even in the dryer summer months, and does not get muddy during the wetter periods of the year. Only regular brushing to lift the pile and algae and moss treatments are preferred. This will ensure a healthly environment for your new lawn, and the people who use it. If Artificial turfgrass is your preferred Surface treatment of choice, we can visit you on site to talk you through such a project.
Our Landscaping Team
Once on site, our experienced Team will minimise disruption to you and your everyday activities and carry the project through from start to finish in a few days. Each garden or scheme is unique and several keys factors will determine which products are utilized. These factors include Ground stabilisation, drainage, access, edging treatment, grass texture (feel), applications (children, pets, sports etc). Use of Artificial Lawn Grass, gives the homeowner, an opportunity to adopt a complex Design, as would be achievable with a Gravel Garden yet keep the look more ‘Natural’ with the use a Green.
This type of lawn has such a wide scope for Design without compromising on maintenance issues. Also ideal for novelty features within a garden, such as Seating areas, Benches etc, the grass can cover mostly what you throw at it. Indeed these elements can be brought to a scheme with or without a certain ‘humour’ attached.
Artificial grass has no reason to be overlooked as an alternative to a gravel garden. In fact, we are much happier to install Artificial grass as opposed to gravel, as a means to reduce workload within the garden, feeling that gravel often looks too gaudy if little thought is put into its choice.
Grass species
Artificial Grass is never really offered as an alternative to Natural Turfgrass in most circumstances, however on occasions we sometimes need to adopt such a tactic, where perhaps shade or ambient light is a problem and natural grass will tend to ‘retreat’ towards more favourable conditions.

Installation Guide
Turfgrass timber perimeter
Using sawn/treated timber (6X1shown) and stakes(2X2) construct the perimeter of the lawn, using 2 1/2″ 8 screws. Two fixings on each stake is adequate for compaction. Pilot hole before screwing to avoid spliting timber. Where lawn axis runs alongside paving (as shown) ensure you leave a15mm void between the outer edge of the timber shutter and the paving
Dust and Aggregate Base
Fill interior with 6mm/dust aggregate of similar. Compact aggregate with a vibrating plate during the infill process. Saw all stakes to finished level of the timber shutter. The finished level of the aggregate should be around 10mm lower than that of the timber shutter. Hammer timber wedges in void to ensure no movement during compaction.
Artificial Turfgrass Sand Layer
Lay a sand base over the aggregate and compact using a vibrating plate. Ensure the finished level of the sand is level with that of the timber shutter. When levelled and compacted, lay a Geo-textile membrane over lawn area and fix to top face timber shutter using 1″ clout nails. Using a stanley blade, trim excess off all overlapping membrane.
Affix Grass Mat To Frame
Using a hammer and bolster, gently tap excess grass carpet down into void. Once all internal edges are correctly finished, fix artificial grass to the top face of the timber shutter using 2″black galv. nails. Continue fixing along the external or exposed face of the shutter timber. Dress grass carpet over exposed timber face and fix once again
Brushing Grass Flat
Brush grass sward on completion. Initial ‘shine’ on pile will disappear after a few days to a matt finish, imitating that of natural turfgrass. To ensure a taut fitting we recommend placing the artficial grass in full sun prior to laying or warming gently to expand and soften. This will avoid ‘ripples’ forming during hot weather when carpet physically expands.
